Or, argument #548 for recreational substance abuse after work.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The good news is that thus far all of my accounts have chosen to continue working with me even though we are buried in work and us having to give out extremely long lead times.

The bad news is my customers are now asking me to quote and order even more work so they can get their jobs in the pipeline as a result. Or put simply, “We have 8 more homes coming up in the fourth quarter that need [whatever I do]. Let’s get them all ordered NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW”

So I’m working hmmm 16 hours today? Taking a five minute break to right this depleted vent post. I had chicken Tikka Masala with garlic naan for lunch, so that was pretty cool.

Well anyway. Goodbye, remaining hair.

Is there any way to charge them more to improve their position in a very long queue?

I mean, if I were in that much of a hurry on a project, and knew you were good, I’d be willing pay a premium up front to slot in next in line, but I believe in paying people fairly for the demand on them.

People offer that all the time, I never accept it, never will. One, it builds an unrealistic expectation. Okay, you cut in line. Did you cut in line by one business day? 6 weeks? 1 week? Who knows. Two, we as a company are basically trying to shed work. So such a deal doesn’t help us over the long run. In addition, I consider it an unfair advantage, because while my coworker lost their account, I kept mine, AND took more money, AND made a promise that flies in the face of our current message to all of our accounts. Plus, cutting in line in any aspect of life is just rude. Other people shouldn’t be punished because you bribed your way through. I have people who give us tons of business that are waiting so long... for Joe Blow to walk through the door and wave a couple of greenbacks is like, blech. Don’t need it.

That’s quite the complex and in- depth answer and I thank you for illuminating a dimmer  portion of my brain.

I think you’re an inspector for warranty companies. You validate the work so that the warranty is valid. Builders can't  sell the houses without the warranty validated.

What if you are handicapable and cut in line at Disneyland? Is that ok?

Heavens, no. Plus most homes just close with a bullet list of items and warranty work is done during occupation. People just wanna get in their house ASAP.

I’m pretty much right there with you, as I’m currently sitting at my desk, writing up an appraisal for vacant land that I viewed at the end of last month. I have six more reports to complete by Monday/Tuesday before I have appointment to view more properties next week. I’m two beers in at the moment. Cheers..

Raise prices? That could reduce workload while keeping profits level.

True, but we just recently raised prices, and I like money so I’ll take their business... While the market is still hawt. I’ll have plenty of downtime in the winter when N O O N E is building.
